The restaurant is perfect for having a dinner with your friends, a date or small birthday celebration. Although they offer burgers and pizza it's not one of the cheap fast food places. Besides that, the restaurant serves Polish dishes, salads, soups, gratins and steaks. The name might be a little misleading - vegetarians will find no-meat options too!
The prices are 4-8 € for a whole meal.
Insider tip: In the summer time they offer very tasty lemonades of various flavours for 2€! They are not on the menu but you can ask the waitress for them :) Recently the owners have opened a butcher café. You can eat a delicious piece of cake there and in summertime they offer homemade ice-cream which tastes heavenly.

A typical workday for a Viadrina student.
One of the best alternatives to Mensa, Turkish or American fast food is the Lucky´s Asia Snack. Located at the Marktplatz and just a few meters from the main building of Viadrina, the restaurant offers basically the standard Asian menu, with different sorts of meat or vegetables and rice/noodles as a supplement. The main difference to other Asian places is the cheap price, but an above-average quality at the same time. For only 2€ you can get a sizeable portion of fried noodles. For 50 cents more the dish options with meat and vegetables start. Almost like the Mensa prices, right?!
In summer you can eat at the tables outside and enjoy the sun. The waiting time is always short, so you will not spend that much time on your lunch break at Lucky´s. Take-away dishes in practical boxes, are of course also available.

Personally, I love Indian food. They use so many incredibly tasty spices, which are left out in most other cuisines. Shalimar is located directly at the tram station "Dresdener Platz". They offer a variety of different meat dishes, such as lamb, chicken and fish, but also have a really nice vegetarian menu. My favourite dish is called "Mutton Juckni" – lamb in yoghurt sauce with rice – really tasty! As a side dish I always take "Bahtura", a special Indian bread, which I dip into the yoghurt sauce. The prices are really affordable in my opinion. I usually spend around 10-12€ and my hunger is gone for the rest of the day. Oh, I almost forgot the best thing about Shalimar! If you're too busy to go there, you can just give them a call and order some food. Before you know it, the food is at your door. Enjoy!
