The "BunterHering" is the one great city festival in Frankfurt (Oder) which started in 2004. Each year in July over 100,000 people visit the city for the various stages and artists. From the early morning until the late evening bands, dance-groups, light shows can be found in different places. There are many contests as well, for example: pulling a bus. And it's all for free! But there is one very special thing for students of Viadrina: You can participate and create the festival with your own ideas.
Each semester you can enroll in the course "Eventmanagement" and become an event-planner. It´s a great and unique opportunity to develop your personal stage in the garden of "Kleist-Museum".

Tired of the small party locations in Frankfurt? If yes, the Helene Beach Festival is the right place for you to have a party. The Helene Lake is one of the most beautiful and cleanest lakes in Germany. From the city center of Frankfurt to the lake its approximately 15 km and will take you less than 45 minutes by public transport to get there. Around 150 artists perform at the festival and every musical taste will be satisfied. There is some electrical music, but also Hip Hop. Furthermore, some pop artists will perform and in contrast you can listen to rock music. More than 25,000 people visit the festival each year and come from all around in Germany. Ticket prices can vary each year, but it's likely that they start at 100€. The combination of beach and festival will help you to forget your university stress and it will prepare you for the summer after the exams.

There is also a great Street Food Festival which comes to Frankfurt (Oder). Or better said island Food Festival? Because it takes place directly on Ziegenwerda, behind the university. The island changes into a wonderfully smelling place of fantastic various foods from many cultures. There will be more than 70 food trucks and over 100 meals to try. Furthermore, there are live music, and DJ and chill-out areas. The festival takes place every year at the end of May. The entry costs 3€.

On the last day of the Christmas market is another highlight; the day ends with a big fireworks display. It's worth a visit!

In the afternoon there are outdoor games like a table-tennis tournament. In 2018 there was also a quiz game against professors: "Schlag den Prof" (engl: defeat the prof.) - a game where you need knowledge and cleverness.
In the evening there are cool concerts. This year a band from Frankfurt (Oder) named EITL played, as well as Fanfara Kalashnikov and then a DJ played in front of the Audimax to the end of the Viadrina Day. The fest ends with a great after show party in "Frosch".
The festival is completely for free for all.
